Basically I have been wanting to branch out into PLR for over a year now. It was planned to happen last year but never did because there was too much else going on. So 2011 was to be the year when we were going to launch this new part of our online business, and now we have in the form of PLR Articles Online.

I have read a lot about PLR articles online in the last year or two, and there is definitely a good market for it. Lots of writers have branched out into providing this service, and since I am often too busy to take on lots of new clients, I wanted to make sure I could offer another service as well. I got a course from someone I respect a lot online, Tiffany Dow (you may have heard of her) and this course has spurred me on to create some article packs to kick the PLR Articles Online site off with.

What will the future bring for PLR Articles Online?

Lots of people have the need to buy content for their websites, no matter what subject they are focusing on. PLR can be a good bet for people who want to get the most for their money, because with a simple rewrite of the content (done in just a few minutes) it can be used as a unique piece of content.

I’ve learned a lot about PLR since we decided to put the site together and launch it. It might be early days but things are looking very good indeed, and PLR articles online will undoubtedly be another focus of mine in the coming weeks and months. Freelance writing online is an amazing profession.  Okay I know I might be a teensy bit biased because this is what I do for a living.  The most amazing thing about it is that I have always wanted to be a writer.  But I thought that once I actually started doing freelance writing online – and had been doing it for a while – I’d probably get bored or the shine would wear off a bit.

Can freelance writing online be boring sometimes too?

However with that said, I know there have been days (few and far between maybe, but they are still there) when freelance writing online has not been the #1 thing I have wanted to do.

The first time I got bored with freelance writing online, I panicked.  Had I actually chosen the wrong career after years and years of yearning for it?

Of course the answer was no.  But I did learn something valuable after the initial panic from that first experience ebbed away.

I learned that freelance writing online can have its dull days, just as any job can.  You can certainly do things to limit that boredom, i.e. you can make sure you only take jobs that you will really enjoy.  If you hate gardening and you take a job to write 20 articles on the subject, you are going to be bored silly by the end of it.

You have total control over your freelance writing online career

Remember that.  For me, the feeling of being out of control is most likely to occur in the first few months after starting a freelance writing online career full time.  As time goes by – I’ve been doing this full time for two and a half years or so now – that feeling dissipates.

In short, if you are starting to feel bored with freelance writing online, take some time out to analyse the reasons why.  The chances are you are just going through a minor slump.  Once you’ve ironed it out you can get back to freelance writing online and enjoying it as much as you do normally.

Taking a different direction with freelance writing online

If the feeling persists, you could try taking a different tack altogether.  Stop writing articles and go for blog posts instead.  Change your client base if you must.  Take a few minor steps and make a few minor changes, and see where it gets you.

You will probably find you don’t need to do this though.  I find a half day spent doing something else entirely – or even taking a couple of extra days off if I can – solves the problem when I feel bored or below par.  This usually means freelance writing online becomes more vibrant and entertaining again.

Do you need a degree to fill that writing job position?

How many times have you been on the verge of applying for a writing gig, only to discover that you don’t have the qualifications they are looking for?

I know I’ve done it before, but I read an interesting blog post tonight on Carol Tice’s excellent writing blog that made me question those actions.  You can read the post yourself here, and I would recommend you sign up for her RSS feed as well.  Her blog posts are always well worth reading.

But back to the story.  Carol talks about the fact that she has won various writing jobs that she hasn’t been qualified for, and she makes an excellent case why we should probably all take a leaf out of her book.

I guess there would be some instances where applying for a writing job we aren’t qualified for would be an obvious waste of time.  For example, those ads where the poster says ‘if you don’t have these qualifications, don’t apply’.

But in other cases I think Carol is right.  She has proved as much by winning gigs that she hasn’t had the right qualifications for.  So maybe we should all think about re-evaluating how we apply for jobs as we head for a brand new writing year.  As Carol indicates in her post, education and degrees aren’t everything.  There is practical experience too, not to mention clips that prove it.

So think twice when you are about to discard that job you’re not qualified for.  You might be just the person they need.
