Hi all,

I’m having a great day planning my writing around the tennis at Wimbledon, but it occurred to me that planning is really something we writers should be doing all the time.  After all, when a new job comes in you need to be sure that you can complete it in plenty of time before that deadline looms.

clock Do you plan your deadlines?

Plan your time effectively

I tried adopting a new technique a few weeks ago which has worked really well for me.  Not only do I get more work done more quickly, I also seem to be earning more as well.  And that is never a bad thing!

It’s a simple technique – I divide the number of articles or pages of an eBook that I have to do by the number of days I have available (taking into account days off as well).  I can then see how many I have to do each day to get the job done, and I always build in an extra day or two at the end if possible, just to make sure that if something happens I still have a cushion to fall back on.

I didn’t think it would have much of an effect on my actual writing but I certainly seem to be completing work much faster these days.  It also gives me some extra time to write some articles of my own to sell on a couple of online sites.

If you try this technique come back and let me know how it works for you.  Alternatively, do you have another way of making sure everything gets done without that last minute mad panic?

Happy writing!
