It just occurred to me that I am fast approaching my six month anniversary of deciding to leave my full time job and write full time. My, the time has gone fast!
I always dreaded having to make the decision to leave and give it a go, but in the end I had no other choice. I’d been writing part time for about a year and in the second half of that I was earning more each month part time than I was full time at my job. Needless to say that kind of took the pressure off the situation. If I had ‘played safe’ and stayed at my job I would have had to turn down better paid work, so it was a no brainer really.
But of course there is still an element of risk to any major decision like this one. Luckily I had the overwhelming support of my partner, who runs an eBay business, and it was always our plan to work from home full time eventually anyway. We’d had enough of working for other people and feeling like our lives were ruled by the clock.

Work when - and where - you want to as a freelance writer
And six months on?
It’s wonderful. I set my own hours; if I want to work at 3am when I can’t sleep I can do; and I’ve collected more and more clients for web writing jobs and eBook writing as the time has gone on. Part of the reason for this blog is to encourage those of you who want to live this same lifestyle as a full time web writer to keep on going – it might take a while to establish yourself, but it can also happen a lot faster than you think.
