Firstly you will notice from the somewhat short post I made yesterday that I have now put my blog on Technorati.  You can also bookmark it there by clicking on the small button on the right.  It seemed like a good time to start spreading the word about my new blog, and what better place to start than Technorati?  I thoroughly recommend it if you have a writing blog of your own, and there are plenty of other writing related blogs on there that are well worth a read.

But the main purpose of my blog post today is to say that I may not add another entry for about a week, as I m taking a well deserved week off.  If I manage to get near a computer I may just post an update but it will be a bonus!

It has made me think about the time we spend writing though, and it reminded me of the advice you often hear people give out, which is to write something every single day.  Now I am all for regular writing – I wouldn’t make a full time living at this if I didn’t write nearly every day – but I do believe that you also need a break from time to time.  And with writing you tend to know when you are getting a little tired and you need a break.

Working from home also makes it more difficult to take complete days off sometimes.  You know it will only take you half an hour to complete that article, so why not do it and get it out of the way?  It’s a good point, but sometimes we just need to recharge our mental batteries so that we can come back refreshed and raring to go again.

Everyone is different of course, but it’s fair to say that we should all learn how we work as individuals.  If you find that you need a day off from even thinking about writing once a week, then do it.  If you need to write every single day, then do that.  Whatever works for you is the right solution for you, and that’s the one you should stick to.

So whether you are taking a week off, taking a day off, or you have plenty of writing jobs to keep you going constantly for the foreseeable future, have fun, keep writing and I will be back in a week to see whether my break did me the world of good that I hope it will!
