When you think about writing for online markets, what type of work do you think of?
Finding online writing work is a never ending task. Unless you get a job as part of a writing team – which pretty much guarantees you will get ongoing work – you will have to look for your own writing gigs.
Online writing doesn’t just fall into one huge category. There is a lot more to it than that.
Selling articles online is what most online writers want to do. And it is possible to make a good living from it.
Okay so what makes up the week of an online writer? Well it depends on what kind of work you do, who you do it for and how much of it you do.
How many times have you been on the verge of applying for a writing gig, only to discover that you don’t have the qualifications they are looking for?
If you have been reading my blog recently you will know that I have been setting myself some new writing goals for 2010.
We all have our own little ways and means, don’t we?
Yes, it is. But that would make an unbelievably short blog post wouldn’t it, so let me go into a bit more depth.
I did today. Let’s face it, most of the writing jobs you find online tend to fall into the same groups over and over again. It’s not often you see a job asking for quizzes, so I applied.
Some online writers earn peanuts. Others earn enough to only work part time for a full time – and very nice sized – wage.
So how do you make sure you fall into the second group?
The answer has to be “plenty”. But quite often we find ourselves visiting the same old sites we always visit. It can be tough to inject any new excitement into our search for writing jobs. And yet when most writers are heading towards the same old sources all the time, it means there is a heck of a lot of competition out there you are up against.
Money is one of the big bones of contention with lots of online writers. Some who are new to the game visit some of the big freelance bidding sites and see the lowly rates offered by some of the buyers there. They then see the freelance writers who are willing to write for those amounts. Small wonder so many would-be writers are put off from even getting started when they see those results.
How indeed? Finding article buyers is a constant task for all freelance writers, whatever markets you aim for and whether they are online or off.
