How many different ways are there to find new writing jobs?

Posted by Allison on Sep 23, 2009 in Finding online writing gigs

The answer has to be “plenty”. But quite often we find ourselves visiting the same old sites we always visit. It can be tough to inject any new excitement into our search for writing jobs. And yet when most writers are heading towards the same old sources all the time, it means there is a heck of a lot of competition out there you are up against.

How to turn the loss of a client into a positive experience

Posted by Allison on Sep 18, 2009 in Working for different clients

Ouch. The loss of any writing client can be a disappointing time. This is particularly true if you have been writing for them for quite a while and you’ve got used to that stream of income flooding your way.

If you’re not busy it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be writing…

Posted by Allison on Sep 16, 2009 in General writing topics

First of all, due credit should go to my other half for suggesting that title!

This week has been a lot lighter in terms of writing work for me. It’s been of my own choice however; I have some articles and blog posts lined up for various clients so I am still busy.

Creating a blog for writers

Posted by Allison on Sep 6, 2009 in Promoting your writing

Writing a blog is something you could do for lots of reasons. You could share ideas, talk about your life or blog about a hobby of yours. But if you are a writer – or you want to earn money by doing online writing jobs – then you should create a blog to help you get jobs and make that a reality.

If you have been reading a lot about online writing lately, you will probably have come across the term ‘ghostwriting’. But what is it? How is it different from any other kind of writing?

The importance of keeping active when you work from home

Posted by Allison on Jul 22, 2009 in Working from home

You know that feeling of being sluggish? You’ve probably experienced it before – I know I have. And it can really play havoc with my writing too.

Making good use of your bookmarks toolbar

Hang on a minute – have I strayed into computer lessons here?

Well I suppose I have in a way, but this has every relevance to your writing, so bear with me!

Would you rather write for online markets or for magazines?

Posted by Allison on Jul 14, 2009 in General writing topics

I received a very nice email from a fellow writer earlier on today that prompted me to write this post. They pointed out the undisputable fact that magazines generally pay a lot more than many online clients…

Are there any disadvantages to working from home?

Posted by Allison on Jul 13, 2009 in Working from home

Now anyone who DOESN’T work from home is probably now thinking, ‘How on earth could there be? There’s no boss to dislike, no getting up at 7am to get ready and rush to catch a crowded train, oh and you’re probably doing a job you enjoy too. What disadvantages could there be about that?’

Books, articles and eBay listings…

Posted by Allison on Oct 18, 2008 in General

Yes it’s been a crazy week. I’ve had to take on a bit less writing work than I would normally because of all the stock that is waiting to go into our eBay shop. But the bulk is now on and I am hoping that I can now get back into writing a bit more and simply sell, sell, sell as far as eBay is concerned!

Posted by Allison on Oct 13, 2008 in General

It’s been the most manic of times since I arrived back from holiday. You see, not only does this time of year bring with it lots of writing work, it also brings lots of ordering of Christmas products too.

Back to writing again

Posted by Allison on Oct 1, 2008 in General

Well hello all – I am back from holiday and sitting in my writer’s chair once again! And you know, although it’s always sad to finish a holiday and come back home to normality (especially after the great time we had), I’m ready and raring to go and it was good to start writing again.

A mad month!

Posted by Allison on Sep 19, 2008 in General writing topics

Well it’s been a mad month and it’s set to continue, which is why I haven’t been blogging quite as much as I would have liked of late. That writing job was successfully completed, so much so that the client has ordered more (think I may be heading for a new specialist subject there!), and I have also taken on another job requiring the writing of 164 web pages.

Writing and being sociable

Posted by Allison on Sep 6, 2008 in Working from home

Hi all – this will be my last blog post for a few days as we are off to a trade fair for our eBay business, which we run alongside my writing. We went last year and we’re really looking forward to going again, and it will give me a few days off from writing.
