This is a question that has struck me recently, mainly because one particular client has asked myself and a couple of other writers to write in their style when creating a number of articles they need.
This isn’t always necessary when writing for other people, however it is something that you have to get used to. As a ghost writer or copy writer, you do need to be prepared to put your own style on the shelf in order to adopt someone else’s instead. You get to be chameleon like after a while, as it invariably becomes easier, much like anything else you do repeatedly.
But what do you do if someone doesn’t specify a particular writing style?
My own answer is that I adopt my own style (with limitations, such as not putting in personal information or experiences unless they are ok’d by the client first) and amend it as necessary. Without any further direction from the client this is the easiest path – why struggle to adopt a different style when your own naturally flowing one will probably be much quicker and easier to write in?
Let me know what you think, and how you approach working for different clients in this way.
